This year, some 119 teams from all over the world sent us their proposed experiments. The students submitted proposals in two parts: A written part supported by diagrams or pictures, explaining BEAMLINE FOR SCHOOLS (BL4S) International competition for high school students from all around the world organised by CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, in Geneva, Switzerland. The competition invites teams of high-school students to propose a scientific experiment that they want to perform at a particle accelerator. The project is funded in part by the Wilhelm and Else Heraeus Foundation. Additional contributions have been received from the Arconic Foundation, as well as from Amgen Switzerland AG and the Ernest Solvay Fund, managed by the King Baudouin Foundation. The competition invites teams of high-school students to propose a scientific experiment that they want to perform at a particle accelerator beamline. Beamline for Schools is an Education & Outreach project funded by the CERN & Society Foundation, supported by individuals, foundations and companies. In 2018, the project was funded in part by the Arconic Foundation; additional contributions were received from the Motorola Solutions Foundation, Amgen and the Ernest Solvay Fund, managed by the King Baudouin Foundation. Beamline for Schools has become very popular over the past seven years, with more than 11000 students participating in it. The competition is open to teams of at least five students, 16 years and older, with at least one adult supervisor, or “coach”.
